Interested in joining the West Indy Winds?
The West Indy Winds is the perfect ensemble for any of the following: working adults who are looking for ways to keep playing while balancing a professional and family life, students looking to experience music outside of their band program, professional musicians wanting to expand their horizons, and those who are looking to start playing again after putting their instrument away for an extended period of time. We have a variety of ages, experience levels, and backgrounds!
Where do we rehearse?
Speedway High School (5357 W 25th St, Speedway, IN) in the band room. Enter through door 19,located on the northeast corner of the building. The parking lot accessed off of 25th street in front of the school is best.
NOTE: Due to ongoing construction at Speedway High School, our rehearsal location and entrance are subject to change. Please contact us first to make sure you show up to the right place!
When do we rehearse?
Every Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm
(We do take short breaks after concerts, so please contact us to be sure that we’ll be there.)
Do I need to audition?
Nope! Just show up and we’ll get you everything you need. We are extremely laid back and eager to help. Come as you are!
Is there a membership fee?
Yes, but it all goes towards scholarships for local band students to help with their program fees. We ask each member to donate $15 per concert, but will gladly accept more. If you can’t afford that, please don’t fret! Our treasurer will be more than happy to work something out with you. Having you join us is what is most important!
What instruments are needed?
We welcome all instruments, but are especially in need of players in the following sections:
- Bb Clarinet
- Bass Clarinet
- Bassoon
- French Horn
- Percussion
What if I don’t have an instrument?
Please email us, we do have a limited selection of loaner instruments that may be available.
What kinds of music do we play?
We play a wide variety of music, from classic concert band literature to pops, film and Broadway tunes, holiday music and more. Something for everybody!
